Yesterday was my younger brother’s 19th birthday, so I took him, my other brother, and their friend to lunch at this new Delicatessen in town. I got a veggie and cheese sandwich, which included tonnnns of delicious veggies (onions, tomato, sprouts, avocado, pickles, I think there were others too…) and provolone cheese on wheat bread. SOO GOOD. om nom nom nomz.
my weekend has been absolutely magnificent. how about yours?
Oooh, I love packing lunches! A lot of the time I pack about a cup of dry oats and mix in some cinnamon and stevia, and then during lunch I’ll add hot water or just cold water and throw it in the microwave for a few minutes. Sometimes I get sick of it, but it keeps me full and energized while I’m at school. I also always keep at least two pieces of fruit (One of which I’ll have with my oatmeal) in my bag, and a handful of almonds for snacking between classes. Other than oatmeal, I have taken egg sandwiches (whole wheat bread, with one egg, spinach, mustard, and tomato), avocado+hummus+other veggie sandwiches, eggplant and tomato sandwiches, plain boiled beans (about a cup) with with hot salsa mixed in, bean sandwiches, peanut butter (natural) sandwiches, and more. I am known to bring weird lunches, so when I eat lunch with friends at school they are always excited to see what I have! haha. I definitely stress packing lunches that are high in protein because they’ll keep you full longer. Also, you really can’t go wrong with keeping some good ole’ raw almonds with you at all times. Almonds are known to suppress hunger and munching on some of these throughout the day will keep you from making a quick trip to the vending machine. I know they’ve saved me! As for my little ritual— I eat breakfast every single day (IT’S INCREDIBLY IMPORTANT) at home (sometimes it’s eggs, a protein fruit smoothie, yogurt with fruit, oatmeal-if i’m not having it for lunch, toast, or whatever else I can think of..) then for school I pack a lunch main course (such as a sandwich, beans, oatmeal, etc), two pieces of fruit, and some almonds to take with me to school. I eat breakfast around 8, my almonds around 11, my lunch with a piece of fruit around noon, and then another piece of fruit around 2/3 before I head home. I usually get home around 5, have a snack, and then eat an hour or two later. I only use this system on school days because I want to stay energized throughout the day and I don’t want to eff up my metabolism. I’ve seen what school has done to other students’ eating habits, and I don’t want that to be me! I hope my suggestions and eating habits can help you out! :)
you are my new favorite restaurant. My big sister took me there today, and it was extremely delicious. I got half a Mediterranean Veggie Sandwich (piquant peppers, feta cheese, cucumbers, lettuce, tomatoes, onions and cilantro Jalapeño hummus on Tomato Basil bread), Garden Vegetable Pesto soup, and an apple I decided to stick in my purse for later. Seriously, restaurants are making it easier and easier to be a vegetarian. I mean, the last time I really had trouble choosing something to eat at a restaurant was when I was at Hooters last month (which was repulsive, by the way— the only meatless thing they had was greasy grilled cheese). I’m definitely enjoying being a vegetarian, because although it takes a wee bit more thought when it comes to what you eat, it’s almost as if it’s giving you one less thing to worry about— and that’s what may result from meat-eating in the long run.

On our way to Panera Bread..
You want to know what I loved most though? The self-serve tea bar! I ordered one cup of hot tea, and had the option to refill my cup as many times as I wanted, choosing from the several “The Republic of Tea” teas. My first round I got Earl Greyer, and on my way out I got Mango Ceylon. Mmmmm. I talk about tea too much… but seriously, the stuff saves me.

I also got some boots from Target. WILL TRENDY POST PHOTOS SOON! haha
P.S. As much as I am loving it here in Sacramento, I am starting to miss my brothers at home..
I should have taken a photo to share… but it just looked to good to wait out. Sooorrry!
Bread: Multi-grain thinwich
Contents: sliced mushrooms, half an avocado (mashed), slice of pepper jack cheese, hummus, and a wee bit of organic fig and maple dressing (OM NOM).
Oh yeah, and a tad of fresh blueberries and a spoonful of peanut butter on the side (I like weird combos, aight?!) muahah.
I have also realized that I WANT to start running again. It’s been about a month or so… and I miss it. Good thing there is a 4-mile run next month in my town, that way I have an excuse to really get in gear (training is fun, anyhoo)! hah. Another thing I look forward to is next semester— my brother and I are taking a weight training class together at our Junior College. Should be fuuuunn.
Oh yeah, last night I was looking up healthy brownie recipes all night, and came across THESE: http://www.fatfree.com/recipes/brownies/ , which I am excited to test out. Most of them are vegan/guilt-free recipes. What could be better than healthy AND delicious brownies? Then you won’t feel about about devouring the whole pan! :)
